The Poll

History

Established in 1980, The West Virginia Poll is a non-partisan survey of public opinion.  The original media sponsor of The West Virginia Poll was the Charleston Daily Mail.  Over the years, other media organizations co-sponsored the Poll with the Daily Mail including the Associated Press and WSAZ-TV.  Beginning in 2015, the presenting sponsor of the Poll is MetroNews, West Virginia’s statewide radio network owned and operated by West Virginia Radio Corporation.  The survey is now known as the MetroNews West Virginia Poll.

From its beginning in 1980, The West Virginia Poll was designed and conducted by Rex Repass.  Today, The Poll is owned and operated by REPASS Research | Strategic Consulting, a marketing and opinion research firm.  The poll is conducted periodically with release of data to news media and through online distribution of survey findings and analysis. During its long history, The West Virginia Poll has acquired a reputation as a reliable source of public opinion trends in the Mountain State.  Over the years, topics have included approval ratings of elected officials and electoral trends; and attitudes toward state, national, and international issues, public policy, popular culture and sports topics.
